The version 4.17.0.249919200 of Google Photos comes with the much-awaited dark mode however, currently it is not being rolled out to all the users of the app. It will take some time for the application’s roll out with the dark mode for all the users. With this, Google Photos has become another product from Google to receive a dark theme after Google Chrome, Drive, Keep and Auto. We should mention that much like other Google applications to receive the dark mode, Google Photos does not have a pure OLED theme black but a dark grey. Other colourful aspects of the application have also been dialed down to a darker shade. Earlier, when Android Lollipop was launched, Google decided to White-out every app along with the Android system. It did not include just the system settings, quick tile panels and the app drawer window, but even all of its Google-made products which were present in the device. It is already known that the AMOLED display panels are great in displaying colours, and they display the black colour better than the LCD display panels. That is one of the reasons the app developers and the device manufacturers themselves have started putting new dark theme to their system UI or the application itself. OF course, the fact that it saved the battery life of the smartphones is also a very key reason. Popular applications such as Reddit, Twitter, Pocket, YouTube and Messenger have already got the Dark Mode and Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook developing this mode.

Google will soon be launching its new Android Q and the company has also said that it will be rolling out a system-wide dark mode with the new operating system version. Other than the apps mentioned above to get the dark mode, Google is trying to bring the dark mode for all its platforms and services before the launch of the stable version of Android Q. At the Google I/O 2019, Android Q beta 3 was rolled out and it came out with an option with which the user can properly enable the system-wide dark mode. Once activated, the supported applications will also get darkened out. Currently, Google Photos’ new update is being rolled out with the new mode but it is not available for all the users. To activate the dark mode, users would need to enable it through a server-side switch.
